Withering Realms is a single-player horror action RPG from Moonless Formless, the Seattle studio behind Withering Rooms. Steam Early Access opens on 2 September 2026. You play Clover, a nine-year-old ghost who wakes in a decaying mansion and pilots a two-metre doll of wood, metal, and human remains. The right arm is missing on purpose: that empty socket is where crafted weapons go. The year is 1926, ten years after an occult event halted the First World War. The dead walk, spirits roam, and some people cast spells on the Occult Frontier around the Welsh-inspired town of Penwyll.

This hub is a routing table, not a dump of every mechanic. Pick the one page that matches the hour you have. The story is standalone; you do not need Withering Rooms knowledge. The game is not a roguelike. Some areas randomize on entry, but death does not wipe items, crafts, or story. The main quest is mostly linear, with multiple endings and a large amount of optional content. New Game+ and extra side quests are planned during Early Access toward a 1.0 in 2027.

First hours and input

Start with Getting Started if this is your first session. It covers Clover and the doll, why you should not dump every level into one socket, when to visit the repair shop, Steam Deck notes from the demo era, and the slash-key bug report. Body, left arm, and right arm level separately. Early Access includes about fifty weapons and tools, seventy talismans, seven large dungeons with bosses, puzzles, and loot, and a bestiary of 110 monsters.

If the stick or mouse fights you, open the controls guide. The Early Access build has full controller support, including DualShock and DualSense. Check the in-game input map instead of memorizing a wiki overlay. A controller is the better default for spacing. The same page covers the pause menu, slash-key reports, and the Perf HUD in graphics options. Hardware numbers live on the system requirements page: Windows 10, a 14 GB install, and a GTX 970-class card at minimum.

Combat, crafts, and builds

The combat guide is the mechanical spine. Four arms act independently. The doll’s missing right socket takes crafted weapons with a primary attack and a secondary attack. Melee primaries are light combos; secondaries are heavier strings that carry the doll forward. The doll’s left hand holds utility such as shields and pistols. Clover’s left hand uses consumables (flasks, grenades). Her right hand holds a spell catalyst that fires quickly and enhances the doll. Spacing and movement matter more than a bigger number on the weapon card.

When you are ready to spend parts, compare options on the tier list hub and lock a plan on the build page. Named right-arm examples include the Pivoting Greatsword, Chain Rock, Machinegun, Flamethrower, and Enchanted Candelabrum. Tools are not customizable after you craft them; you spend resources to make another. Talismans slot onto limbs to raise damage or cut resource use. Four body talismans add protection or retrigger arm talismans when conditions are met. Replacement eyeballs show up as shop upgrades once you can reach town.

Opening hours, night, and bosses

The opening walkthrough runs Beynon House, then Saintswood. It covers the birdcage puzzle, a scarecrow that can look like a prop, and the first two bosses without spoiling later Penwyll. After those fights, switch to the bosses guide for spacing, secondary-attack windows, and the difference between a story boss and a perimeter guardian. The map expands when perimeter guardians fall. Town landmarks you will hear about early include shops, NPCs, the Clocktower, Mazechapel, and a repair shop that builds gadgets for the doll’s arm.

When you need streets and landmarks instead of a fight, open the Penwyll map. If you are still deciding whether the Early Access build is for you, read the review.

Night is a second layout, not a colour filter. The night cycle guide explains pitch-black fields, physical lighting, and Clover’s faint glow, which is visible at night and washed out by day. Revisit the same streets after dark for new creatures and secrets.

Clover is not the only viewpoint. The characters hub introduces Althea, a freelance investigator who uses interrogation, lockpicking, and forgery. Her sections play more like classic survival horror with fixed cameras.

What Early Access includes

Read the Early Access notes before you file feedback. The Steam build is English for interface, audio, and subtitles. It includes Steam Cloud, achievements, and full controller support. Consoles and extra languages are planned for the 2027 full release. Moonless Formless is a solo developer; useful reports beat a ranked list of complaints.

Use this hub as a map of intent. If you are lost in a house, open the walkthrough. If a guardian is stuffing your spacing, open combat, then bosses. If Penwyll feels empty at noon, wait for night. If a craft looks weak, check builds before you scrap the parts.

The rest of the wiki assumes you will bounce between these pages on purpose. A guide here is not a spoiler dump: the walkthrough stops after the opening hours, the bosses page talks about patterns instead of later names, and the combat page never tells you which ending to chase. If you only have twenty minutes, practise a secondary melee string in Saintswood. If you have an evening, clear a perimeter guardian and walk the same route after dark. If you are filing feedback, attach a screenshot and mention the build date. Come back to this hub when a new craft or a new night route changes what you thought you understood about the doll.
